Acorn and more

Autumn brings so many yummy gifts for the people.
Say onion weed (Allium triquetum) which is one of my favorites is not only growing in spring, no it is also growing now and can be added wherever you use chive or spring onions.

Try my ‘Mac & cheese & onionweeds’ (click here for the recipe)

Another gift are acorns!

Oh I just love acorn coffee which is so good for building bones!
Here is a post where you can see how to prepare acorns so they are edible.

Acorns can be used like nuts in cakes and if you are adventures, why nut try my yummy ‘Acorn cake’
Yummy!

Saturdays

Every Saturday early in the morning, my dear husband drives to the market to buy some goodies for the week.

He was very proud, since he purchased this big cabbage for only & 2!!!

Good thing is, the fruit and veggies from the market are not poisoned with all the pesticide and insecticide which are used for the wonderful looking stuff you might get in the super market.
Christoph also brought me some yummy black berries! They were mashed in their bag, but that didn’t matter because I made some jam anyway.

There is nothing better then starting a Sunday morning with home made bread and a delicious berry jam! If you like my recipe, just click here. Enjoy!

Soaking up the sun

Yesterday was such a nice Sunday!

We went for a family walk and discovered some birds already collecting material for their nests.
And over our heads we watched a busy New Zealand pigeon dinning tree buds.

In my home country the pigeons are much smaller then these big birds. Maybe there would be more meat … o.k…. I leave this… (sorry Heidi, can’t tell you anyway how this birds taste *g)

And what would be a herb woman with empty hands?

Oh, look at that!

Even my husband brought home some fennel to try an old Roman recipe!

I will find out how it tastes as soon as it is finished and of course I will tell ya ;-)

Autumn salad

When we went to Spicer’s today we collected a lot of Daisy leaves and other nice salad supplies.
I even found a lot of Chickweed!

After a long walk I rested under a big tree looking up into the blue sky and enjoyed the falling leaves.
David was playing at the water and had his own special time.

Today I also found a beautiful Ash tree! I love this tree so much! At home in Austria I had a lot of Ash trees to climb or sit under and used there medical gifts. And now I found a beauty in New Zealand!

David was fascinated from the many mushrooms… he is kind of a fan of this stuff.

After three hours in nature we enjoyed a nice wild salad with Pizza junks (leftovers from yesterday, yum!)

I am so thankful for this beautiful sunny day… I wish all people a piece of this happiness.

Apple and carrot skin

We had enough carrots for the freezer today, so I peeled off the skin and prepared them for future cooking.
Since we can’t have bunnies or other animals in our rented town house I recycle the skin by simmering a nice soup.

soup

Same with our apple rings which I dry in our special dryer. I dry the skin separately. They are nice as snacks! Very crunchy!
And I put them into our self created cereal.

Now we had a nice lunch on this beautiful sunny autumn day, with a delicious soup and cereal-yogurt with fresh Pineapple sage blossoms. Yum!

nice lunch

Soon I will have more time to write and so I am looking forward to spring (September should be fine for fresh wild herbs here in Aotearoa) when I can take pictures of harvesting and cooking of ‘wild food’.
Then I should be able to make a ‘cook corner’ ;-)
