Rosella

Things in our garden do well even without water in this hot summer days.
When we started to cultivate piece by piece of our garden, I sow some Amaranth and now he finally comes out through the soil (he really took a long time to show up)

Not far from him there grows St. John’s wort in a sunny spot. He already starts to bloom and I am looking forward to next year where there will be a nice big patch of it :-)

Our Kidney beans also stretch their heads out.
We had a good laugh when David went inside to bring a big can of ‘Backed beans’ (our Earthquake aid) and asked me to open it so we can sow them :-)
He had seen me soaking the Kidney beans over night and instead of cooking them we sow them together in the garden. Yes, this are the first beans my son sees grow ;-)

He is such a blessing.

David is always helping us in the garden.

And you can see how busy he can be…

There are always a lot of interesting things in the garden like this Weta…

… here you can see one back leg of this big Tree Weta.

In the morning while we had breakfast we saw another amazing animal…

… it was an Eastern Rosella! How amazing to have such exotic birds in the garden!

It is really a paradise… the kids can play and jump and run around outside the whole day.

David and Christoph also enjoy their ‘tools.’

Christophs latest wizz-bang was a lawn mover :-)

I am glad to have David who helps me to save herbs and other things before Daddy comes with ‘the machine.’

I made another jar of red clover vinegar. If you like to know more about it, please click here for a link.

Anyway, Christoph wasn’t sure what to do with the clippings…

… but he finally found a place :-)

Benny is also helping by munching a lot of the grass :-)

“We did it!”

While the ‘boys’ enjoy an ice-cream, I enjoy a cuppa in MY newest treasure…

…a rocking chair! What a joy!

Happy New Year everyone!

News :-)

What’s new in our garden?
This beautiful plant!

We have no idea what it is and we are already excited for the next year when we may be able to identify it by the flowers :-)

Not far from the exotic plant we  discovered a dragonfly which enjoyed the sun on a Kawakawa leaf.

The garden still has a lot of bare ground and I hope our pumpkin will soon cover it…

There is a pair of New Zealand Pigeons in our garden and Aileen is admiring a beautiful shimmering feather from one of them.

As you already know there are surprises every day, but today I was pretty much in awe when I saw this seedlings sprouting!

I sow them the same day as I made my cuttings which was three days ago! How fast the seeds pop out I already discovered by my basil which I sow in front of the tomatoes.
I am glad the cuttings do well too.
It is a constant circle of surprises when you have a garden… I hope yours are as good as mine ;-)

My friend has gifted me with an apple mint and now in my ‘wet’ corner of the garden this beauty can grow freely.

The wet corner contains many different herbs which like shade or wet (eg: angelica, peppermint, orange mint, Gotu cola, valerian and so on)

I just love the mint for it’s smell alone. Sometimes I make a herb bath which let you wander into a Summergarden in the middle of winter… ah what lovely scent…

What I love in New Zealand is the environment where you think it is Summer, Spring and Autumn at the same day. Look at the next picture which is also in the shady wet area. It looks like Autumn with the leaves but at the same time it is a ‘Cherry Summer’!

I am so happy! And yes Benny must be happy to because Christoph went into the workshop to saw, hammer and drill.

He finally made Benny an enclosure where he can feel the grass under his feet :-)

Now we can save the lawn mower :-)

Benny likes it and soon he will get a bigger enclosure where he can run around :-)

Ah yeah… and Christoph wants to surprise him with a Bunny girl…

Home sweet home

My mother in law was asking for some pictures, so I will blog this one for you ;-)
Benny is very happy with his new home…

…he was already checking out every corner in the kitchen :-)

The rabbit will get a nice hutch in the garden as soon as possible.

Aileen and David made me this cute pictures.

And now what you have been waiting for ;-)
This is the children room.

Jonas is still painting his room, so sorry I have no pictures of his. But here comes the master bedroom…

I love the build in closets in every room :-)

The dinning room is also in progress…

… yes, hard work makes hungry…

… especially for ice-cream ;-)

Here a look in the still ‘messy’ kitchen…

… and into the super cool pantry!

It is so big it even holds my herbs and tinctures :-)

Christoph’s office is slowly in progress…

… and he was so nice to make me a book shelf for…

… my special corner :-)

We have a pellet oven in the TV room and an open fire which you can see in the picture above.

The garden photos will come as soon as possible ;-)

Have fun Mama!

Winter blue?

I guess we don’t get a winter blue here in my region, since there is always enough sunshine and something blooming.

Even for Benny are enough delicious herbs in the garden. He loves especially the sweet blossoms of pine apple sage :-)

Happy Easter!
